OIL IN THE FIELDS PART 1 (Selected pictures 2014)
A project on the Bakken oil fields in western North Dakota. »I spent several weeks in the region this past summer, trying to capture the phenomenon of »black gold.« The exhibit will interpret and reflect on my experiences »between landscape, gravel and oil. It’s just a poetic thing that happened with me in the Bakken. When I was out there, I felt more like a poet and an author, as before. It was strange and good, both ways.« My work primarily focuses on the built environment – both above and below ground. Current events and social changes associated with the development of the giant oil field in North Dakota triggered his curiosity. This body of work asks: What happens to these places and spaces in the face of such rapid development? What characterizes them? How do they change? What‘s behind it, under it, and in between it? The resulting exhibit is slated for October 2014 at the Rourke.
